The Neil Robertson rescue stretcher is a lightweight carrying device based on Japanese bamboo MATS developed by John Neil Robertson in the early 1900s. Stretchers are used to lift the wounded vertically and are made of sturdy canvas and reinforced with bamboo strips. The canvas is wrapped around the patient and secured with sturdy canvas straps. A lifting rope was attached to a ring above the patient’s head, while a guide wire was attached near the ankle to stop the stretcher wobbling as it was lifted.
