Shadowless surgical lamps are used to illuminate the surgical site to optimally view small, low-contrast objects at different depths in the incision and body cavity. Since the operator’s head, hands and instruments may interfere with the shadow of the surgical site, shadowless lamp and color distortion should be minimized. Moreover, shadowless lights must be able to work continuously for long periods of time without giving off excessive heat, which can make the operator uncomfortable and dry out the tissue in the operation field.
